  REF 6
Stereo preamplifier

Almost since the inception of the brand, Audio Research has produced some of the finest components for music reproduction; this is especially true with regard to preamplifiers. In 1973, the SP3 was hailed as the best preamplifier available, and this tradition of excellence has continued ever since. The Reference Series from Audio Research was first introduced in 1995 and has been the ultimate representation of performance, musicality and power. The Reference 6 is the latest chapter of our story.

The Reference 6 is not simply a market-driven product, but rather, a solution to a need which arose after the creation of the Reference SE Series amplifiers. According to Warren Gehl, who is responsible for sonic development of all Audio Research products, the new series of Reference amplifiers offer a level of musical and dynamic capability only made apparent when using the flagship, two-chassis Reference 10 preamplifier. Both preamplifiers of the Reference Series need the ability to provide the full benefit of this new sonic landscape. Increasing the tube count to six in the analog section, and advancements in the power supply improved both macro- and microdynamics and lowered distortion.

  Sonus Faber II Cremonese

New element of the iconic Homage Collection, Il Cremonese derives from Lilium. Thru to the highest brand’s tradition and to the history of Italian violin making, with this project Sonus faber pays a tribute to the great master Antonio Stradivari a luthier and artist who revolutionized traditional violin craftsmanship, and continued the work of Andrea Amati to create new concepts of form and finishing that are still appreciated and cherished today the world over.

This project is a tribute not only to the great violin maker, but also to one of Stradivari’s most famous violins, Il Cremonese, celebrating its 300th anniversary in 2015.

The innovative five sides cabinet “Rhomboidal diamond design” optimizes the structural solidity of the wooden cabinets with a unique diamond shape that is immediately recognizable. Inspired by the shape of Lilium, Il Cremonese introduces clean lines and an elegant, minimal, and sharp design.

The tilt of the cabinet, its five non-parallel walls structure and the sides applied on the enclosure, increases structural strength of this loudspeaker system. The solutions adopted eliminate any possible resonance thanks to very strong reinforcing structures strategically placed within the enclosure. This new and atypical Sonus faber form represents an evolution towards technological and visual innovation, simultaneously maintaining the historic milestones that marked the history of violin making, as well as the history of the Sonus faber brand itself.

  Sonus Faber Venere Signature

We have designed a speaker that goes beyond modernity, a stage but not an endpoint along our journey toward new and ambitious projects for the future. Sonus Faber Pryma

When we heard that Sonus Faber is working on headphones, we already knew it will not be an ordinary product. Over time, some leaks (probably controlled) started to appear on the Internet. First images, first press shows, and finally we saw one of the first pairs during a press conference in Warsaw. The headphones were presented to us by Luca Vernacci, representing Fine Sounds Group, but due to the schedule of the event there was not much time to have a second look. That is why right after the press conference we got them for a review, as one of the first magazines in the world.

  S.0

Finding a subwoofer that is both ultra compact and high quality can be a challenge - that’s exactly where the Sumiko S.0 comes in. Don’t be fooled by the size. The S.0 offers true foundation into low-40 Hz range, with more control and gravity than most loudspeakers rated to reach the same limit. The S.0 is poised to provide real texture and substance to your listening experience.

The Sumiko S.0 requires less than a square foot of floor space, allowing it to go just about anywhere. A bedroom surround system, a gaming system, or even a small, premium office system will take on greater weight and definition with the S.0 providing the bass line.

The design premise for the Sumiko S.0 was quite direct – yield as much performance and sound from the most diminutive package possible. To this end, you will find features on the S.0 that would be expected only on much more costly models. The custom, 6.5-inch, extra long-throw woofer lies at the heart of the design, driven with 120 watts (250 peak) of clean, high current power. The S.0 is rich in quality from its stout, lacquered cabinet down to the solid aluminum feet. Speaker level and line level connections are on the back panel, along with all necessary controls to contour the speaker to blend seamlessly into your system.

  S.5

The Sumiko S.5 is the evolution of its smaller sibling, the S.0. While still compact, the S.5 gains some overall size to incorporate a larger driver, and provide more substantial bass reinforcement. This mid-sized woofer will be a welcome addition to any two-channel or multichannel system, providing a balance between accuracy and output.

The Sumiko S.5 utilizes a custom, 8-inch, long throw woofer in a cast steel basket, providing an additional 50% greater surface area over the S.0. A high current, 150 watt, Class AB amplifier to delivers thrill and excitement to your music, movie or gaming experience. Combine multiple S.5 units for more even bass distribution and greater impact.

Take your system’s performance to the next level. Add the dynamic impact you’ve been craving, while restoring, not sacrificing, precision and control. Experience everything your media has to offer – simply with the addition of the S.5 subwoofer.

  S.9

As the largest model in the S series, the S.9 will transform your system – any expectations you may have of it – into an engaging, dynamic experience, alive with movement and emotion. The S.9 will produce genuine, room-filling bass with ease, and simultaneously provide previously unheard details and textures guaranteed to thrill.

The Sumiko S.9 utilizes an active-passive configuration; one of the 10-inch drivers is controlled by the 350 watt amplifier, while the other, passive driver reinforces the output of the active driver. This additional surface effectively doubles the air moving capacity of the design. The result is more dynamic, prodigious bass across the entire room while reaching over a half octave below the S.5. Both speaker level and subwoofer (line) level inputs are provided for the most flexible connectivity, and the controls let you dial in the subwoofer to blend perfectly into your system.

One or more Sumiko S.9 subwoofers in your system will transform your listening experience into a spectacular, life-like engagement that will keep you in your seat song after song, scene after scene – all at a very reasonable price.

  REF 250 SE

The concept of a large monoblock amplifier is to provide control to a speaker. The difficult part of the job is maintaining finesse and musicality while doing it. Audio Research has produced some of the most critically acclaimed products during its 42-year history and the new Reference 250 SE aims to break new ground.

From the moment the music begins, the foundation of an exceptional musical experience is evident. Sound emerges from an inky black background, revealing microdetails and performance cues typically reserved for the live performance. Substantial, fundamental bass underscores the event with resolution and textural accuracy. Space around performers and groups of instruments stretch before you onto a lifelike stage with scale and body. Dynamics swing from silent passages to grand fortissimos without effort or strain. This is high definition listening.

  REF 3

Introduced in the spring of 1998, the REF2 received a continuous stream of accolades from around the world. True to its name, it became the reference line-stage preamplifier, purchased new by a thousand music lovers and coveted by thousands more. With the MKII version having been introduced in 2000, it is time to push the performance envelope once again. We are proud to introduce the all new REFERENCE 3 line-stage preamplifier.

"Breakthrough" is an overused term, but it is the most fitting word to describe the REF3. As you can probably imagine, it is difficult to write about a new product like this without sounding clichéd, but the REF3 is so good that it is startling when you hear it in your system. How is its presentation superior to the great products that have preceded it? Simply, in every way. The REF3 is more musically transparent. It presents an immense soundstage that makes everything else sound one-dimensional. Voices and instruments have real body and weight, with pinpoint focus. The deep, powerful bass is fast, articulate, and controlled. It possesses a dynamic swing that is breathtaking. And, most importantly, there is a directness and immediacy that connects the listener with the performance. The results are simply thrilling.

The list of high-end-audio companies more storied and more reputable than Audio Research Corporation is short. Though William Johnson sold ARC to the Italian company Fine Sounds Group years ago, all ARC products are still made in the US, and ARC will still service any product ever made over the company’s 40-year history. That is taking good care of your customer, and it’s worth knowing if you’re thinking of dumping ten grand or more into a new box for your home stereo.

  Amati Tradition

Just as Andrea Amati is considered the founder of the Cremonese violin making that canonized the construction techniques, shapes and proportions of stringed instruments as they are known today, so Beloved Tradition carries with it the synthesis of original structural concepts and ideas.

Flagship of the new collection Homage, Amati Tradition is the new reference floor diffuser in the catalog Sonus faber second only to Il Cremonese and the top of Lilium and Aida range, from which it inherits many technical-patent solutions.

  Guarneri Tradition

An acoustic instrument that lives in the environment becomes part of it, serving as both the music source that piece of furniture. The design decisions, the finishing of the new materials, the extreme quality of the workmanship and attention to every little detail are, like the sonic result, the exaltation.

This concept referred Guarneri Tradition is a direct expression. Now in its fourth restyle, it enhanced structurally and technologically, Guarneri remains the speaker from most emblematic shelf Sonus faber, powerful and elegant at the same time.

  Serafino Tradition

Homage The collection is enriched by a new element that completes the family, Serafino, a mid-range floorstanding speaker with great appeal and with a power to be discovered. The name is derived once more from the history ofItalian violin making; Santo Serafino, in fact, was a celebrated and mysterious master who trained at the workshop of Nicolo Amati, active in Venice in the first half of the '700 and specializes in the production of violins tenacious and incredibly delicate.

  VT 80

The new VT80 is the much-anticipated amplifier that finally allows the Foundation series to be shown as a complete system. Combining an enticing new esthetic with worry-free operation and great audio performance, the VT80 is a vacuum-tube amplifier that will open doors to a new customer base. At the heart of the VT80 are two important new features that have never been offered before by Audio Research. The first is a proprietary auto-bias circuit developed entirely in-house by our engineering department. Simply drop in the tubes and the VT80 will adjust bias for each output tube. The circuit automatically adjusts for tube wear or fluctuations in the power in real time. It will also work for different types of output tubes, including 6550, KT88, KT90, KT120 or KT150. The adjustment range is wide, but matched tubes from Audio Research still provide the highest performance. Finally, an auto-bias circuit that works in real time and does not compromise performance!

The second new feature includes fusing of each output tube. In case of a fault condition in a tube, an easily replaceable fuse will blow, not a resistor. This is what we mean by worry-free operation.

With the beautiful new look, the flexible connection options, and the great new features, thrilling audio performance remains our primary goal and the foundation upon which we were built. Designed as part of the Foundation series, the core of the VT80 is adapted from the Reference 75, including the same power and output transformers, similar circuit topology, and many of the same parts. The 75 watt-per-channel VT80 offers striking dynamics, powerful bass, and natural clarity combined with a very holographic presentation. The result is sonically breathtaking and provides a new reference in its price range.
